Нам повезло, что к матчмейкингу в Dota 2 относятся лучше, чем в CS2 — Capitalist cover

Casters Avery 'SVG' Silverman and Austin 'Capitalist' Walsh, as part of the Not For Broadcast podcast, commented on the partial reset of the ratings in Dota 2, and also appreciated some of the changes in patch 7.41e.

SVG : I think the main goal was just to get rid of inflation at a high rating. This is such a soft seasonal reset - that’s how I perceive it. I don’t think their goal was to cut the MMR of the top players, since in the end you will get almost the same game.

I believe they are simply compressing the MMR range, which probably makes it easier for the algorithm to find and match people. It seems to me that one of the main problems was that players with 15-17 thousand MMR do not give anything to the system at all. It was necessary to return them below.

In the last one or two years, many more changes have been aimed at 5v5 play rather than solo play. This was probably the last thing they did. In general, all changes were related to content: fixing bugs, adding cosmetic items and events. None of this has anything to do with ranked mode. As far as we know, the ranking selection algorithm has not changed at all for six or seven years. Perhaps something has been changed, but it looks like it hasn't.

I think they just don't care about him. And that's probably right. I don't think there's any way to really improve matchmaking enough to change the day-to-day experience of players. So screw it all, just work on other things and make the game fun.

Capitalist: I want to argue with that a little bit. I think they could definitely do things that would improve people's matchmaking experience, but it would likely require too much effort and a ton of resources that Valve isn't willing to devote to it. And that's okay. I mean, we're lucky that matchmaking is treated better in Dota 2 than in Counter-Strike 2. At least we have something.

SVG: Ancient Apparition's ultimate cooldown has been reduced by 10 seconds. This is a very important change indeed. When such supports have their cooldown reduced for team fights, it greatly affects their position in the meta. We saw this happen with Warlock and Lion.

I think one of the reasons Lion remains playable at all is that Finger of Death's cooldown is now a full 60 seconds shorter than it used to be. This was once one of the most outdated abilities in terms of cooldown time.

Lion players know what I'm talking about. You used to use Finger of Death and be like, “Okay, guys, see you in three minutes.” And now you can really accumulate stacks of ultimate. So these cooldown changes have a big impact on the game, especially on characters that depend on them like Ancient Apparition.

SVG : God, who cared? I refuse to believe that this was really a big problem. This simply cannot happen. I think it's one of those things that everyone has seen at least once, so it feels like it's very popular. In fact, this happens in about 0.00001% of matches. I just refuse to accept it.

Capitalist: I totally disagree with that because people see that and they're like, “Wow, that looks like a lot of fun. I’ll try to play like that too.” And then they go play Zeus. They may not make it to the Divine Rapier stage or the 80 minute map where they have cooldown reduction enchantments, but that doesn't stop them from trying to do it initially.

Earlier, Arthur 'Arteezy' Babaev spoke about updating the rating system in Dota 2. The streamer was delighted with the innovation.
