I've asked a million times: what is the value of a player's salary anyway? What does it actually provide to the organization that pays it? In some esports disciplines, the organization receives returns in terms of branding, awareness, content, streams - you name it. In Dota 2 you don't get anything at all. Literally nothing. The only thing this player can do is win the tournament for you. Even so, the players are vehemently opposed to any revenue sharing with the organization. So much so that clubs had to literally ask tournament organizers to include mandatory revenue sharing in the rules. And this has become perhaps the most controversial change in recent memory: the organization gets a share of the only thing it pays you for at all: winning. At the same time, the players themselves do not want to do anything else for the club. If you don't create any value, then that's life. Salary depends on the value you bring. If that value decreases over time because Dota 2 isn't growing either in terms of player brands or tournament reach, then on what basis are you asking to be paid more? The only argument is: “I have a better chance of winning the tournament.” Fine. But what does victory actually give?
Silverman noted that victories give organizations virtually nothing.
