Chris Cadden exits Hibs for 'more game time' with Aberdeen

Hibernian have sold Chris Cadden to Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen for an undisclosed fee, with the 29-year-old right-back seeking "a fresh challenge" and "more game time".

The 29-year-old right-back, who has signed a two-year contract at Pittodrie, made his final Hibs appearance as a substitute in Thursday's 4-1 Conference League qualifying win over Malisheva at Easter Road.

He had made 27 appearances last season, 19 of them starts, but played 166 times overall for the Leith club since arriving from Columbus Crew five years ago.

Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson knows Cadden from his time in charge of Motherwell and told his club website: "Chris is a brilliant addition to our group, not just because of what he'll bring on the pitch but because of the character and professionalism he'll add to the dressing room.

"He has a great engine, always shows a willingness to get forward and support the attack, but he's also matured into a really dependable full-back defensively.

"He was incredibly keen to make this move happen and that tells you a lot about his hunger and his desire to be part of what we're building here."

Cadden also has two Scotland caps and Robinson was keen to add someone with a breadth of experience who also "understands this league inside out".

Cadden, whose brother Nicky remains with Hibs, said: "Having worked with the manager before, I know the scale of his ambition and what he is looking to achieve. His passion and vision for the team were clear. It's a fresh challenge for me."

Hibs head coach David Gray paid tribute to "a brilliant servant to this club".

"The energy, consistency, professionalism and the way he has conducted himself every day has helped set the standard for new players and young lads coming through," he added.

"Unfortunately, we couldn't offer him as much game time as he would've liked here and, at this stage of his career, we understand that he wants to maximise his playing opportunities."
