BO1s conclude as EWC day one draws to a close

After some upsets early in the day, normal service was resumed in the opening matches of EWC.

The opening day of the main event of Esports World Cup has now concluded, with 16 BO1s in the books after a jam-packed day of action. The only real upsets of the opening round of games came early on in the day, with BIG taking down Aurora before JiJieHao shocked Spirit .

Aurora 's start to life as an international roster continued to stutter in the face of BIG 's pace and teamplay, whilst Spirit suffered from poor individual performances outside of Danil "⁠donk⁠" Kryshkovets , the worst culprit surpisingly being Dmitry "⁠sh1ro⁠" Sokolov .

Beyond those two upsets play went pretty much as expected, with favorites like FURIA , MOUZ and Vitality all getting the job done to continue their group stage journeys into the upper bracket.

PARIVISION suffered a notable loss in their debut with Evgenii "⁠FL1T⁠" Lebedev among their number, having been presented with an eminently winnable opener against B8 . The Russian squad were in the driver's seat at 11-8 up on Cache, but disappeared in the final rounds as B8 racked up five in a row to seal the match.

Ninjas in Pyjamas meanwhile were dealt a humbling defeat at the hands of Legacy , a spectacular performance across the board ensuring Legacy 's debut with Santino "⁠try⁠" Rigal came off without a hitch.
