G2 outclass BIG to make EWC playoffs

The series may have ended with a 2-1 map score, but G2 were comfortably the better side.

G2 are through to the playoffs of Esports World Cup, securing their berth by crushing BIG on Cache and Inferno either side of a close OT loss on Ancient.

BIG were 3-0 on Cache when they picked it here, but had no answer for a G2 defence that consistently disrupted their slow pace. Artem "⁠r1nkle⁠" Moroz was able to nip in front of smokes, pick one kill, and flee before being fragged, while Guy "⁠NertZ⁠" Iluz was brilliant in Middle on both CT and also when the sides swapped.

G2 's pick of Ancient started better for BIG , with a nice Jon "⁠JDC⁠" de Castro quad-kill on his favorite map. For a long time, only NertZ was fragging for G2 as they slumped to a 5-10 scoreline.

But that was when G2 's strong CT side from Cache was resurrected as they clawed their way back into the game. Even with a Benjamin "⁠blameF⁠" Bremer ace 1v3 clutch, BIG ended up behind 11-12 only to force overtime at the last gasp.

NertZ sat at 127 ADR at the end of regulation but his carry performance wasn't enough in the extra rounds, BIG comfortably taking over the map and sending the series to a decider.

Unfortunately for BIG the decider was Inferno, a map G2 are incredibly comfortable on and one that G2 dominated when these two teams met on it at IEM Cologne Major. G2 duly delivered on their status as favorites, utterly decimating BIG with ease to secure the series and their spot in the playoffs.
