Dota 2’s Forgotten Lore Figures Still Hold Unfinished Stories
Several important Dota 2 lore characters remain absent from the game despite their links to major heroes, factions and storylines.

Dota 2’s universe contains many figures who shaped major events but later disappeared from the narrative. Balimar Rotbranch, once a monk of Turstarkuri and later a servant of the Dead God, is one example. Anti-Mage hunted him after the monastery’s destruction, while Windranger also sought his death. The comic never explained their motives, although Balimar’s powers suggested a dark, undead-themed character.
Breklin, the arena fighter and only known friend of Monkey King, appeared in the comic A New Path and was never seen again. His unusual appearance and apparent amphibian traits hinted at a connection to darkness or water. Another unresolved figure is B’kor, Queen of Pain’s brother and a major power within the Ristul Court, alongside Shadow Fiend and Underlord. His fate remains unknown.
The Ascension comic also introduced Nogh, an exiled prince who once ruled the demon clan at the Ristul Court. Queen of Pain needed his help, but imprisonment cost him his title, territory and influence. Aghanim, Rubick’s father and the creator of Aghanim’s Scepter, is another major absence. His death is established, yet its cause is unclear, while alternative versions of him appeared in Aghanim’s Labyrinth.
Other forgotten figures include Scree’auk, the goddess who revived Vengeful Spirit and empowered her through loyalty; Sorla Khan, commander of the Red Mist army and Axe’s rival; and Kraw, Kez’s one-eyed mentor, who led forces against the Thorned Nest. Each remains tied to active heroes through items, dialogue or comics, but none has received a substantial continuation.
The Old Witch, who gave Ringmaster life in the dark Puppet story, also remains unexplained despite being central to his origin. Together, these characters show how much of Dota 2’s lore depends on unresolved relationships, rivalries and forgotten powers. Their return could connect existing heroes and give several unfinished storylines a clearer direction.
ColdMath take
For Dota 2, these characters represent unused links between current heroes, factions and comics. A return for figures such as Kraw, Sorla Khan or B’kor could deepen existing rivalries and clarify unresolved storylines around Kez, Axe and Queen of Pain.
Until then, their influence remains mostly visible through dialogue, items and scattered comic references rather than new in-game appearances.
Pick an outcome. Trade it beside the story.
