Haaland calls for unity after Manchester City verdict

Erling Haaland has called on Manchester City supporters to remain united and positive after an independent commission found the club guilty of every charge involving serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations. The ruling covers the period from 2009-10 to 2017-18, when City were found to have arranged sham commercial contracts as part of a disguised funding scheme.

According to the commission, those arrangements artificially increased the club’s reported revenue by £830 million. City confirmed last week that they had appealed the findings. The appeal hearing will be private, while its result will be published only when permitted. Premier League rules generally allow 12 weeks for the hearing to conclude and a further 30 days for the decision, though the timetable may be extended.

Speaking before Sunday’s visit to Liverpool, Haaland said supporters should stay together, look forward and continue trying to win and enjoy their football. He also described City and its fans as personally important, saying he feels connected to them as a supporter himself. His family has strong ties to the UK: his parents lived there for ten years, while his father trained daily at Carrington.

Haaland’s availability for Liverpool remains uncertain after he requested to be substituted during Norway’s defeat by Portugal. Norway coach Stale Solbakken said the striker could have played the final 45 minutes but had been experiencing poor feelings. Haaland has been granted a short break and is expected back at Manchester City’s Etihad Campus on Thursday.

ColdMath take

The appeal timetable remains uncertain, while Haaland’s fitness is the immediate sporting concern. City will learn more about his availability after his return on Thursday, ahead of Sunday’s match at Liverpool.

His message gives supporters a clear focus: remain together while the legal process continues and the squad prepares for a demanding Premier League fixture.
