Friedkin Group weighs options for Everton, including controlling-stake sale cover

The Friedkin Group is reviewing its future options for Everton, including the possible sale of a controlling stake in the club. The group said on Friday, October 9, 2026, that it believes the time has come to consider Everton’s next chapter, while stressing that any interested party would face careful scrutiny.

Led by American billionaire Dan Friedkin, TFG completed its full takeover of Everton in December 2024, bringing Farhad Moshiri’s long tenure as owner to an end. The group said its initial focus was to address the club’s financial uncertainty and provide stability, investment and support both on and off the pitch.

Everton also said the group had worked to help complete the long-promised stadium for supporters. TFG added that it would continue backing the club and its community work throughout the process, but said neither the group nor Everton would provide further comment while the review is ongoing.

ColdMath take

The review could lead to a change in Everton’s ownership structure, but no transaction has been announced. For now, the Friedkin Group says its support for the club remains in place.

The next update is likely to focus on whether a suitable buyer emerges and whether the group proceeds beyond an evaluation of options.
