Mourinho dismisses criticism of Mbappe’s cycling during injury layoff
Jose Mourinho said Kylian Mbappe did not violate Real Madrid’s standards while recovering from injury during the international break.

Jose Mourinho has rejected claims that Kylian Mbappe breached Real Madrid’s strict standards after appearing on a bicycle during the international break. Mbappe left France’s squad after taking a knock against Turkey on September 25, then was seen at Paris Fashion Week and cycling while recovering.
Mourinho had previously warned that injured players should avoid cycling because a fall could delay their return or cause a more serious injury. However, he explained that Mbappe’s bicycle was used only for a short trip around a hotel complex in Switzerland, rather than for risky training or leisure riding.
The coach said Real Madrid’s players had followed their obligations and called the reaction to Mbappe’s ride ridiculous. He also dismissed speculation that the forward could be booed at the Santiago Bernabeu, saying his priority was a fair reception and focusing on a difficult match that must be won.
Real Madrid return to La Liga against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, October 10. Los Blancos sit fourth after seven matches and are six points behind leaders Barcelona, making the fixture important as they try to reduce the gap at the top.
ColdMath take
Mbappe’s cycling does not appear to have affected his standing with Real Madrid. The immediate test comes against Villarreal, with the club needing a strong result to stay within reach of Barcelona.
Mourinho’s comments also suggest the focus inside the club remains on performance and discipline, rather than outside speculation about the forward’s recovery routine.
