Maresca Rejects Claims Manchester City Titles Are Tainted
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca backs the club’s owners and expects victory in the appeal against the Premier League charges.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has rejected suggestions that the club’s titles are tainted after an independent commission found City guilty of most of the 115 charges brought by the Premier League. The Italian said he knows the work required to win those trophies and remains fully confident in the club’s ownership and leadership.
The commission ruled that City breached financial regulations during the 2009-10 to 2017-18 seasons. The club has appealed, arguing that the decision contains serious errors of law, principle and fact. Maresca said discussions about the charges did not affect his decision to take the job and that he would have accepted it even if the verdict had already been published.
City will play their first match since the ruling at Liverpool on Sunday. Maresca expects a particularly difficult atmosphere at Anfield but said his players are focused on the football and have not been distracted by the surrounding noise. He added that facing major occasions such as this was one of the reasons he wanted to become a manager.
Maresca has won each of his first five Premier League matches in charge and could become only the fourth manager to begin a spell at a club with six consecutive victories in the competition. He also confirmed that Erling Haaland is ready to face Liverpool after recovering from his international commitments with Norway in Marbella.
ColdMath take
The verdict adds pressure before a major away fixture, but City’s immediate task remains sporting: maintain their perfect league start and handle the atmosphere at Anfield. Haaland’s availability strengthens their options.
A win would give Maresca six consecutive Premier League victories at the start of his City tenure, while the appeal remains unresolved.
