FURIA mount comeback against Aurora to reach EWC quarter-finals

The Brazilian-majority squad won 10 straight CT rounds from a 3-9 deficit on Mirage to win the series.

molodoy took over the CT side of Mirage with 18 kills and 149 ADR FURIA beat Aurora 2-1 at the Esports World Cup with comebacks on Ancient and Mirage to reach the tournament's quarter-finals, knocking out the Turkish-European squad in heartbreaking fashion.

Aurora got to play their pick first and made good on it early on, as a quad-kill in pistols by Ali "⁠Wicadia⁠" Haydar Yalçın set them on course for an early 3-0. FURIA got two back, one of them with a quick Danil "⁠molodoy⁠" Golubenko 1v1 kill with the AWP, but Aurora still went to the half leading 8-4.

FURIA won a crucial second pistol round on the attack and then had a streak of six rounds in a row to take the lead, 10-6, before Aurora could even retaliate. In the end, the Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo -led squad held their own to complete the T-side comeback with two successive rounds to break an 11-11 tie in their favor without the need for overtime.

KSCERATO gets a big clutch early on Nuke

Aurora started Nuke on the CT side, and they once again got off to a 3-0 lead. An early 1v3 clutch by Kaike "⁠KSCERATO⁠" Cerato showed some fragility in the defenses, however, and Aurora only managed to keep a two-round lead at the half.

With 8-8 on the board, FURIA won a crucial retake after conceding the B site in a 5v5 situation, but then another fast B play for Aurora put the tie right back on the board.

The map ended up going down to the wire, with Aurora hitting map point, 12-9, but unable to win it out as FalleN got a last-second defuse in the final round of regulation to force OT.

A big triple entry on A by Mareks "⁠YEKINDAR⁠" Gaļinskis with a double by molodoy made it 14-14, but Aurora hit map point the next round and then Ismailcan "⁠XANTARES⁠" Dörtkardeş locked Outside with a triple to force the decider.

Jimpphat gave Aurora a 9-3 lead at the half with a 1v2 clutch in the final round of the half

Aurora will have nightmares as they gave up another big lead on Mirage, where FURIA brought the same grit as on Ancient to come back from a big deficit at the half, having fallen to a 3-9 at the switch after a Jimi "⁠Jimpphat⁠" Salo 1v2 clutch.

FURIA kept it alive on the CT side by winning the pistol round, and slowly but surely started their climb back into the game, round by round, as Aurora either ran into a wall or failed to win after-plant situations time and again. In the end, FURIA won out a clean 10 rounds to seal the comeback and advance to the next round of the single-elimination bracket.
