Moyes surprised as Everton owners open door to a sale
Everton’s owners are considering new investment or a controlling-interest sale, just under two years after completing their takeover.

Everton were put up for sale again on Friday, October 9, with The Friedkin Group saying it is open to new investment, including a possible sale of a controlling interest. The American group, led by Dan Friedkin, completed its full takeover of the club in December 2024, after ending Farhad Moshiri’s ownership.
David Moyes said he was surprised by the announcement and learned about it on Friday morning, at the same time as supporters. The manager said he had expected the owners to remain for decades, although the events of the summer transfer window had already made him question their long-term commitment.
Moyes also expressed sympathy for Everton fans, who have endured repeated takeover uncertainty, failed bids and two Premier League points deductions for financial-rule breaches. He said the club had enjoyed a relatively stable previous season and was beginning to move away from relegation concerns before the latest ownership development.
ColdMath take
For Moyes and the squad, the immediate priority is continuity on the pitch. The manager said the players remain focused on winning matches, while the ownership process develops around them. Any change in control could also bring uncertainty over his long-term position.
The team’s recent progress away from relegation pressure will now be tested against another period of institutional instability.
Pick an outcome. Trade it beside the story.
